A Note to My Younger Self

Now, I’m 27 years old, and I realised I changed much in my 20s! What I meant by change is my mindset; there are several things that I wish I understood in my teenage life (or maybe someone would tell me that). So If you’re in your early 20s and a teenager, this is for you:

1. Have Principles

As a human, we all have insecurities and fears. Afraid of what other people think of us, fearful of upcoming results, afraid of making the wrong decision, fearful of not looking good in front of other people, etc. Having principles will help you to eliminate your fear (I’m not saying 100%), but it will at least ease you amidst your fear, confusion, and insecurities.

I wish I knew this 11 years ago. When you are surrounded by people with different viewpoints, objectives, and different values, then you know whom you’ll get along with. You will not feel a necessity to always fit in any group.

“Choose who choose you too. Surround yourself with people who have like-minded values and foundations above anything else. This is one thing no one can take away from you.”

2. Don’t Worry About Looking Good, Worry About Achieving Your Goals (Quote taken from Ray Dalio)

This quote is so accurate! So many times we try to have a good impression. Continually, when we make mistakes, we are afraid that people will judge us as not capable. Well, Admitting mistakes takes courage and need practice! Train yourself to have a big heart. By then it will be easier.

I used to be that person, I meant who likes to be criticized? BUT, shifting the Mindset, Change from I to We.

“Instead of thinking to save your face, save the mission! Look back to your goal and a bigger view that is your company or organisation’s goal. This will guarantee you to have better results and growth.”

3. Mindset is Everything

When you can grow your mindset, it is the foundation that determines your impression and actions from the minute you wake up to the moment you rest your head at night; your perceptions, your daily routines, your excitements depend on the viewpoint that you own.

When you are mature(regardless of your age), you realise people with a higher level of self-awareness and can achieve their goals are the one who has a growth mindset and have changed their perspective instead of curbing external factors.

Age doesn’t define this. Abundant people in their 40s, 50s or even 60s do not realise this yet and still think to look good and try to fix others merely.

“Changing your mindset is the greatest way to revamp your life and your behaviours.”
